CAEP promotes excellence in educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to advance P-12 student learning. More than 900 educator preparation providers will initially participate in the CAEP accreditation system, which serves all providers currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Educator preparation providers (EPPs) include traditional institutions of higher education, as well as alternative pathways such as residency programs.

The Director will lead the Accreditation Associate in managing the Selected Improvement and Transformation Initiative accreditation processes. Reporting to the Senior Director of Accreditation Operations, the Director will work collaboratively with other members of the Accreditation and Program Review team to ensure the quality and integrity of the accreditation process.

Essential responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

Manage Institutional Relations

  • Deliver presentations on accreditation standards and processes at state and national meetings
  • Communicate with EPPs about the accreditation standards and processes
  • Develop and refine procedural guidance for Education Preparation Providers (EPPs) to maintain the quality of the process
  • Design and conduct web seminars for EPPs throughout the year
  • Provide phone and email support to EPPs

Manage the Selected Improvement and Transformation Initiative Pathways

  • Advise EPPs on the SI and TI pathways
  • Coordinate TI committee meetings 
  • Manage communications with SI and TI EPPs
  • Present on the SI and TI Pathways at national conferences and BOE trainings

Manage the SI & TI Commission Meetings

  • Manage SI Commission and TI Commission meeting preparations
  • Serve as primary staff liaison for commission members
  • Assign panel members and cases to review teams
  • Write reports/memoranda for the commission notebook as assigned
  • Staff commission and committee meetings
  • Prepare council action letters and reports

Support Site Visit Teams

  • Participate in the design and delivery of online and in-person training for visit team members and team leads
  • Train staff and affiliated editors on review of SI and TI visit reports

Manage the Complaint Review Process

  • Respond to all letters and inquiries related to complaints against institutions
  • Advise leadership on whether a complaint received meets criteria for investigation
  • Provide staffing/support of Complaint Review Committee, if a complaint is investigated

General

  • Supervise Accreditation Associate for the SI & TI Pathway
  • Contribute to CAEP’s overall policy, program, and organizational development
  • Maintain collegial and supportive working relationships
  • Work with Senior Vice President to develop and administer budget associated with assigned projects
  • Work closely with other accreditation staff and other departments to support the accreditation process and provide client and customer service
  • Edit accreditation reports prepared by visitors
  • Staff selected offsite meetings
  • Deliver presentations at CAEP, state, and national meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in teacher education at the university level and/or P-12 education
  • Master’s required, doctorate preferred
  • Strong commitment to developing team members
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and solve problems
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization, in higher education and P-12 schools, and the general public
  • Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in supervising staff, including regular performance reviews and plans for improvement
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to travel and flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings as projects demand
