Amendments to Accreditation Policy and Procedures to Take Effect July 1

Amendments to Governance Policy to Take Effect July 1

This document highlights amendments approved by the Board during the June 2026 Board of Directors meeting to Accreditation Policy and Procedures, following Accreditation Council adoption in April 2026. The amended Accreditation Policy and Procedures will take effect July 1, 2026.

The document also highlights amendments approved by the Board during the June 2026 Board of Directors meeting to Governance Policy. The amended Governance Policy will take effect July 1, 2026.

Amendments to Accreditation Policy and Procedures address the following:

• Changes to Part II, Policy II.3.01 to clarify that in an application to CAEP, self-study report, annual report, and other submission an EPP must separately identify each program within the scope of review by state, if offered in more than one state, and by mode of delivery.
• Changes to Part II to add Policy II.10.03 to provide for payment of fees by others, including payment by a state governing body, with the prior consent of CAEP, the EPP, and the third party.
• Changes to Part III, Policy III.1.01 to provide CAEP additional flexibility in working with EPPs that are addressing issues raised by institutional accreditors.
• Changes to Part V, Policy V.1.01 to clarify that EPPs must inform current and/or potential students whether programs submitted as part of a CAEP review and accreditation decision meet licensure or certification requirements not only in the state where the institution is located, but also in the states where the program is advertised as meeting such requirements. If an EPP is operating in full compliance with federal regulations established by the U.S. Department of Education, amendments make clear that the EPP will be considered in full compliance of this provision in CAEP policy.

Amendments to Governance Policy address the following:

• Changes to Policy V.2 to clarify and expand on distinctions between accreditation documents and accreditation records in regards to the document retention schedule. Retention periods are updated to allow for earlier disposal of evidence uploaded by EPPs to CAEP’s accreditation information management system, while establishing permanent retention of Accreditation Council minutes and documentation of decisions.
