CAEP Accreditation Council

The Accreditation Council is the accrediting body of CAEP. The Accreditation Council determines the accreditation status of educator preparation providers (EPPs) and appoints volunteers to serve in roles related to the accreditation process.

Committees help bring recommendations to the CAEP Accreditation Council and carry out the work of accreditation.

EPP Transparency, Accountability, and Improvement Committee

In accordance with the CAEP Bylaws, Article III, the Annual Report and Monitoring Committee shall:

  • Reviews EPP annual reports and make recommendations to the AC for commendations, special review, or adverse action. 
  • Recommend revisions of the annual report, and
  • Review the Committee’s work and procedures and make recommendations to the Council regarding its charges and potential changes in its procedures.
  • ARM shall meet twice yearly at the regular meetings of the AC and by electronic means as needed to accomplish the committee’s goals.

Complaint Review Committee

In accordance with the CAEP Bylaws, Article III, the Complaint Review Committee shall:

  • Review the complaint (1) that an accredited EPP has fallen out of compliance with accreditation standards or policies or (2) that CAEP has not followed its own policies.
  • Request additional information from the complainant and/or EPP as needed to complete its review.
  • Recommend to the AC that the complaint is substantiated and forward complaint materials and the Committee’s rationale for substantiation to the AC and a recommendation for further action.
  • Recommend to the AC that the complaint to be unsubstantiated, forward materials and the Committee’s rationale for finding the complaint unsubstantiated, and recommendation to dismiss the case.
  • Review the Committee’s work and procedures and make recommendations to the Council regarding its charges and potential changes in its procedures.
  • Complaint Committee shall meet twice yearly at the regular meetings of the AC and by electronic means as needed to accomplish the committee’s goals.

Policy and Procedures Committee

In accordance with the CAEP Bylaws, Article III, the Policy and Procedures Committee shall:

  • Conduct a bi-annual review of accreditation policies and procedures and suggest revisions as appropriate.
  • Review policy and procedural changes suggested by the AC, its committee, its Commissions, or CAEP staff.
  • Draft motions for policy or procedural changes for AC discussion and vote.
  • Review the Committee’s work and procedures and make recommendations to the Council regarding its charges and potential changes in its procedures.
  • The Policy and Procedures Committee shall meet twice yearly at the regular meetings of the AC and by electronic means as needed to accomplish the committee’s goals.

Accreditation Councilor Nominating Committee

In accordance with the CAEP Bylaws, Article III, the Accreditation Councilor Nominating Committee shall:

  • Solicit recommendations for committee appointments for the Commissioners
  • Present to Council a slate for the appointment or re-appointment of its members for its standing and/or special committees.
  • Involve all Councilors actively in serving on Council committees, to the extent reasonably practicable.
  • Review the Committee’s work and procedures and make recommendations to the Council in regarding its charges and potential changes in its procedures.
  • Chairs of the AC, the CI Commission, and IB Commission shall be exempt from serving on any standing committee.
  • Accreditation Councilor Nominating Committee shall meet twice yearly at the regular meetings of the AC and by electronic means as needed to accomplish the committee’s goals.

Visit Oversight Committee

In accordance with the CAEP Bylaws, Article III, the Oversight Committee shall:

  • Review peer and EPP evaluations of site reviewers.
  • Review and revise volunteer position descriptions as needed
  • Recommend training and/or professional development for volunteers as needed
  • Review the Committee’s work and procedures and make recommendations to the AC regarding its charges and potential changes in its procedures.
  • The Evaluation Team Selection and Oversight Committee shall meet twice yearly at the regular meetings of the AC and by electronic means as needed to accomplish the committee’s goals.
